  • Why cleaning and basic disinfecting is NOT enough
Cleaning and basic disinfecting are essential for maintaining a clean and safe environment. However, they may not always be sufficient to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria and viruses. This is because surfaces can quickly become contaminated again, especially in high-traffic areas or where multiple people come into contact with them. Traditional disinfectants often have a limited residual effect, which means they can only kill germs while they are wet and do not provide long-lasting protection. This is where self-disinfecting coatings come in. These coatings contain antimicrobial agents that are designed to eliminate bacteria and viruses upon contact with treated surfaces, thereby preventing re-contamination. In addition to their antimicrobial properties, self-disinfecting coatings such as SDST and SD Pro also offer other benefits, including improved surface durability and resistance to mold infestation. Overall, while daily cleaning remains important for maintaining hygiene, the use of self-disinfecting antimicrobial coatings can provide an additional layer of protection against harmful bacteria and viruses, especially in high-traffic areas where cross-contamination is more likely to occur.
  • How do self-disinfecting products work?
Self-disinfecting products are specifically designed to actively reduce or eliminate the presence of microorganisms on their surfaces. The mechanisms by which these products work can vary based on the technology employed. Products like SDST and SD Pro incorporate antimicrobial agents that, once applied, bond to the surface of the product. When microbes come into contact with the treated surface, the antimicrobial agents disrupt their cellular structure and inhibit their growth, effectively killing them and preventing their spread. These self-disinfecting coatings can be applied to a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics, glass, textiles, and ceramics, among others. They are effective in preventing the transfer of microorganisms from one surface to another, providing an active defence against microbial contamination. It's important to note that the effectiveness and durability of self-disinfecting coatings can vary depending on factors such as the concentration of antimicrobial agents used, product formulation, surface material, environmental conditions, and usage patterns.
  • Is SDST and SD Pro self-disinfecting coating safe for children and pets?
Yes. SDST and SD Pro are non-toxic, non-leaching and do not contain heavy metal. They are safe for children and animals.
  • How long does self-disinfecting antimicrobial coating last?
Different types of self-disinfecting coatings have varying lifespans. The duration of effectiveness may depend on factors such as the concentration of antimicrobial agents, the formulation of the coating, the method of application, the surface material, as well as the level of wear and tear it is subjected to. SDST and SD Pro antimicrobial protection can last up to 90 days and 180 days respectively. It is important to note that regular cleaning and maintenance remain necessary to remove dirt, grease, or debris that may accumulate on the surface, even with the presence of self-disinfecting coatings. Neglecting proper cleaning could affect the durability and efficacy of the coating. Monitoring and testing may be necessary to assess the ongoing effectiveness of the antimicrobial product and determine if reapplication is required sooner than the recommended schedule.
